Message to Youtubers
We often get emails from video content creators asking our permission to create and monetize videos about Outlast. We wanted to come up with a clear stance on this to save everyone the trouble of ever having to ask us about it again. Our stance is this:
You’re welcome to create Let’s Play-style videos of our games and monetize them if you want.
In more detail: Red Barrels permits you to create free or ad-supported videos (including Let’s Plays, speed runs, reviews, commentary, and so on) using captured or streamed video from Red Barrel’s video games. You do not need to request written permission to create such content.
Additional written permission from Red Barrels is required for any use of Red Barrels’s art, music and audio content outside of captured in-game footage (please e-mail?[email protected] with any such requests).
Should you decide to post videos containing Red Barrels content, we request that you provide a functional link to our site : WWW.www.35shanqing.com
Please note we reserve the right to update this policy without notice or liability. If you have further questions about this policy, please contact [email protected].
Thanks to all you video content creators out there for thinking of us.
About Fan Content…
Dear Outlast community,
We thank you for creating your Outlast-inspired content (“Fan Content”) and we love your engagement with the game. Please note that while Red Barrels is very excited about your Fan Content, we cannot grant you any license in and to the Outlast intellectual property, such as our characters, storyline, designs, images, script, graphics, gameplay footage, screenshots, music, software, code and trademarks featured in Outlast.
However, we remind you that under the Copyright Act (Canada), you have the right to make certain kinds of user-generated content without infringing upon our copyright. What does this mean? Your Fan Content must be used solely for non-commercial purposes (you cannot charge a fee for it or otherwise earn anything from the exploitation of your Fan Content) and be used for your individual, private purposes online (the “Permitted Uses”). Unfortunately, you are not permitted to manufacture or distribute physical items (such as any merchandise), create a game or write, produce or create any novels or theatrical, film or television productions which include our intellectual property.
You cannot create any confusion by insinuating or creating the impression that your Fan Content has been sponsored by, paid for by, created by or endorsed by Red Barrels or that Red Barrels is in any way responsible for your Fan Content. It must be clear that your Fan Content is in no way a substitute for Outlast.
Please note that if you submit any Fan Content to us, you are automatically granting us a non-exclusive, perpetual and royalty-free limited license to showcase your Fan Content on official Red Barrels channels. This means that we do not have to ask for your permission before posting your Fan Content and that we will not owe you any form of compensation if we decide to post your Fan Content.
We are very grateful for our community and thank you for your support!
